The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State, Arthur Archibong, has called on residents of the state to make informed decisions during the 2027 general elections, insisting that Cross River needs competent leadership capable of reversing what he described as years of underperformance.

Speaking in Calabar while commemorating Democracy Day, Archibong urged Cross Riverians to take advantage of the democratic process and elect leaders who can address the state's growing economic and social challenges. He argued that June 12 symbolizes the power of the people and should serve as a reminder that citizens have the responsibility to determine the direction of governance through their votes.

The PDP candidate pledged to transform the fortunes of the state if elected governor, promising to focus on job creation, wealth generation, economic revitalisation, infrastructure development, accountability, transparency, and inclusive governance.

According to him, Cross River has witnessed "promises without projects" and "noise without results" over the past three years, while critical sectors such as healthcare and infrastructure continue to deteriorate. He alleged that many communities remain neglected despite repeated assurances from government officials.

Archibong further promised to revive moribund hospitals across the state and improve the welfare of vulnerable and neglected citizens. He maintained that Cross River possesses abundant resources and opportunities that can be harnessed for the benefit of the people under a competent administration.

In a move likely to generate political debate ahead of the 2027 governorship election, the PDP flagbearer also reiterated his commitment to serving only a single four-year term if elected, describing it as part of his commitment to selfless service and focused governance.

His remarks come as political activities intensify across Cross River State ahead of the 2027 elections, with both the PDP and APC already positioning themselves for what is expected to be a highly contested governorship race.
