Cross River-based activist and social media influencer MC Okrika has intensified criticism of the member representing Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Victor Abang, questioning the lawmaker's record in public office and urging constituents to demand greater accountability from their elected representatives.

In a lengthy video commentary that has attracted widespread attention online, MC Okrika argued that public office holders who fail to deliver visible development projects should be openly questioned by the people they represent. According to him, accountability should not be seen as an attack but as a necessary part of democratic governance.

Drawing a comparison with Senator Jarigbe Agom, who represents Cross River North Senatorial District, MC Okrika stated that politicians with visible achievements can easily defend their performance, while those without tangible records often struggle to justify their continued stay in office.

The activist expressed concern over what he described as years of underdevelopment in the Central Senatorial District, blaming successive leaders for failing to effectively address the region's infrastructure and economic challenges. He argued that leadership positions should be occupied by individuals who can demonstrate measurable impact rather than merely hold office.

During the commentary, MC Okrika referenced claims allegedly made by some supporters of the federal lawmaker regarding his personal success and achievements. He maintained that the office of a member of the House of Representatives receives significant public resources and should therefore produce projects and initiatives that are visible to the wider constituency.

He also dismissed reports that the lawmaker had empowered some constituents with solar lights, insisting that such interventions fall short of the scale of development expected by communities across Ikom and Boki. According to him, residents are more concerned about critical infrastructure such as durable road networks, electricity, healthcare facilities, and economic opportunities.

MC Okrika further argued that Hon. Victor Abang's years in public service should have translated into greater development for the constituency. He recalled that before becoming a member of the House of Representatives, Abang served in several influential political and administrative positions, including Chief Legislative Aide to former Senate President Ken Nnamani, Special Assistant on Public Affairs, and Chief of Staff to former Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba.

According to the activist, these appointments placed the lawmaker in strategic positions where he had access to influential networks and decision-making processes that could have been leveraged to attract development projects to Ikom and Boki. He challenged the federal lawmaker to publicly outline the major projects and interventions he facilitated for the constituency throughout those years.

MC Okrika also revisited past concerns about the poor condition of roads linking parts of Boki and other communities within the federal constituency. He recalled public agitation over road infrastructure and questioned whether enough had been done by elected representatives to address the longstanding challenge.

The activist further claimed that the people of Ikom and Boki have consistently prioritized requests for better roads, electricity, and basic social amenities rather than political patronage or temporary empowerment programmes. He argued that genuine representation should focus on addressing these core developmental needs.

In one of the most direct portions of the commentary, MC Okrika questioned why constituents should support another term for the federal lawmaker, insisting that any politician seeking re-election should be able to point to concrete achievements as evidence of performance.

He also used the opportunity to encourage young people to resist what he described as a culture of dependency on political handouts, arguing that such practices weaken citizens' ability to hold leaders accountable. According to him, meaningful development can only be achieved when voters prioritize competence and performance over personal benefits from politicians.

The activist stressed that his criticism was not based on political party affiliation, maintaining that he would support candidates from any political platform if they demonstrated capacity and commitment to delivering results for the people. He said the focus should remain on accountability and development rather than party loyalty.

MC Okrika concluded the commentary by insisting that the people of Ikom and Boki deserve stronger representation and should carefully evaluate the performance of those seeking public office ahead of future elections.
