The internal crisis over the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senate ticket for Cross River Central Senatorial District has been resolved after a peace meeting led by Governor Bassey Otu.
Deputy Governor Peter O. Odey announced that the meeting was held at his residence on Monday at the instance of Governor Otu. He said all disagreements over the party's Senate candidacy have now been settled.
According to Odey, all court cases related to the dispute have been withdrawn, bringing an end to the legal battle that had divided supporters within the party.
He thanked Senator E. J. Williams for what he described as his maturity and understanding in accepting the resolution reached by the party leadership.
Odey also called on APC members and supporters across Cross River Central Senatorial District to unite behind the party's candidate, Hon. Oden Ewa, ahead of the coming election.
"I appeal to all our supporters to sheath their sword and accept fully the decision to support Hon. Oden Ewa and the APC in the forthcoming elections," the Deputy Governor said.
The announcement is expected to strengthen the APC's preparations for the next election by ending weeks of internal disagreement over the party's Senate ticket in the Central Senatorial District.
Political spectators believe the withdrawal of all pending court cases could help restore unity within the party and allow members to focus on campaigning instead of internal disputes.
The peace move comes as political parties across Cross River State continue to reposition themselves ahead of the forthcoming elections, with party unity expected to play a major role in determining electoral success.
