The Cross River State Government has launched a major campaign against insecurity as Governor Bassey Otu declared that terrorism, kidnapping, cultism and other violent crimes will no longer be tolerated in the state.
The governor made the declaration in Calabar while inaugurating the Central Planning Committee for the 2026 Cross River State Security Summit. The summit is expected to bring together security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders, religious organisations, youth groups and other stakeholders to develop practical solutions to the state's security challenges.
Governor Otu said the new campaign, tagged "Unite Against Terror," is aimed at strengthening security across the state through intelligence sharing, community participation and closer collaboration among security agencies.
According to him, no meaningful development can take place in an atmosphere of fear and violence. He stressed that investors, tourists and businesses will only come to Cross River when they are confident that lives and property are safe.
The governor called on residents to see security as everyone's responsibility by reporting suspicious movements and cooperating with security agencies. He said the government is determined to stay ahead of criminal elements through proactive measures rather than waiting for attacks before responding.
The 2026 Cross River State Security Summit is expected to produce new strategies that will improve intelligence gathering, strengthen local security networks and promote peace across the 18 local government areas of the state.
Governor Otu reaffirmed his administration's commitment to protecting lives and property, saying his government will continue investing in security as part of efforts to make Cross River one of the safest states in Nigeria.
