The Cross River State Police Command has arrested two men over alleged vandalism and theft of facilities belonging to Akamkpa Quarry Limited, also known as Sterling Global, in Akamkpa Local Government Area.
The suspects, identified as Kelvin Ignatius, 27, and Arnold Okon, 29, both from Obung Village in Akamkpa, were arrested on Thursday, August 27, 2026, by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Sector 2, Akamkpa/Ugep.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, the operatives were on patrol at about 11:20 a.m. when they received intelligence that suspected vandals had been sighted around Nsang Junction.
The police said the operatives responded immediately and arrested the two suspects.
Three long iron poles, suspected to have been stolen from the quarry, were reportedly recovered from them.
The suspects allegedly admitted during preliminary questioning that they stole the poles and further disclosed their alleged involvement in the theft of other company property, including diesel, engine oil and truck tyres.
The Police Command said investigation is ongoing to recover other stolen items and identify and arrest additional suspects allegedly connected to the vandalism network.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, commended the VCRU operatives for their prompt response to the intelligence and directed them to intensify the investigation and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
The Command also appealed to residents to provide credible information about suspicious activities, particularly around critical infrastructure and industrial facilities.
