The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, identified as Saviour Otu Adim, over the alleged murder of his six-year-old stepdaughter, Goodness Ekpo Okon, in Bakassi Local Government Area of the state.
According to the Police, the incident was reported on Friday, August 28, 2026, at about 8:30 a.m. by Mrs Itoro Udofia, who alleged that the suspect assaulted the child, leading to her death.
Preliminary investigation by the Command indicates that the suspect had allegedly accused the deceased child of being a witch before the incident.
The suspect has been taken into Police custody, while the remains of the six-year-old have been deposited at a mortuary for autopsy to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
The case has also been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Calabar, for further investigation.
The Police Command urged members of the public, particularly parents and guardians, to protect children and report suspected cases of abuse promptly.
The Command further warned the public against spreading unverified information or taking the law into their own hands as investigation continues.
