The 2027 People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency, Hon. Abang Pius Besong, has expressed deep sadness over the killing of Mr. Joseph Francis Friday, a worker at Onicha Farm in Iso-Bendeghe, Boki Local Government Area.
In a condolence message addressed to the people of Iso-Bendeghe and Boje Ward, Abang described the incident as a "brutal and senseless killing," saying no family or community deserves to lose a loved one through violence.
He extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, praying for God to grant them the strength to bear the loss and for the peaceful repose of the victim's soul.
According to the politician, the incident has left him deeply shocked, but he urged residents not to allow grief and anger to lead to revenge or further bloodshed.
"Violence cannot heal violence, and revenge can never restore the life we have lost," he said.
Abang appealed to the people of Iso-Bendeghe, Nsadop and Boje to remain calm while the Nigeria Police and other security agencies investigate the circumstances surrounding the killing.
He encouraged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could help identify those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice.
The federal constituency hopeful also directed a strong message to young people in Boje Ward, cautioning them against allowing themselves to be used to carry out acts of violence by individuals pursuing personal or political interests.
He warned that those who incite violence often remain behind the scenes while young people bear the consequences through arrest, imprisonment or even loss of life.
Abang further reminded residents that anyone who sheds innocent blood would ultimately face both human and divine justice, stressing that lasting peace remains the only path to the progress of the community.
He called on residents to reject hatred and provocation, urging them to remain united despite the tragedy.
According to him, the greatest honour the community can give to the late Joseph Francis Friday is to ensure that no other family suffers a similar loss.
He concluded by praying for God to comfort the bereaved family, protect the communities from further violence, grant wisdom to leaders, and help security agencies uncover the truth behind the killing and prosecute those responsible.
