The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Cross River State, Sir Arthur Jarvis Archibong, has criticised the administration of Governor Bassey Otu, accusing him of concentrating governance and development activities in Calabar while neglecting other parts of the state.
Archibong made the allegation while addressing journalists in Cross River State, where he spoke extensively about what he described as shortcomings in the Otu administration.
According to the PDP candidate, Cross River State extends beyond Calabar, stressing that the governor must pay greater attention to communities across the three senatorial districts.
He alleged that Governor Otu spends considerable time outside the state, particularly in Abuja and abroad, arguing that his absence has created a disconnect between the government and the people.
Archibong also questioned the level of supervision of government projects across the state, saying effective governance requires the governor to regularly visit communities and assess the condition of projects being executed.
He further accused the administration of allowing unelected individuals to play significant roles in governance, particularly mentioning the Governor’s Chief of Staff, Emmanuel Ironbar.
The PDP candidate also criticised the government over what he described as the absence of major signature projects nearly four years into the administration.
He argued that several projects being highlighted by the government were either inherited from previous administrations or involved the renovation of existing government facilities.
Archibong said Cross Riverians deserve a government with a clear development agenda that covers all parts of the state rather than one whose activities are concentrated mainly in the state capital.
He promised that if elected governor in 2027, his administration would pursue a more decentralised approach to governance and ensure that development projects reach communities across Cross River.
The criticisms form part of the PDP candidate’s campaign activities ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
