The Territorial Archbishop of Calabar, Most Rev. Dr. Josef Bassey, has called on Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, to remove appointees who are not performing and replace them with people capable of delivering on the administration’s promises.
Archbishop Bassey made the call while speaking on the need for good governance and effective leadership in Cross River State.
According to him, the success of any government depends largely on the quality and competence of the people appointed to implement its policies and programmes.
He urged Governor Otu not to hesitate to make changes where necessary, stressing that political considerations should not be allowed to stand in the way of good governance.
The Archbishop said Cross River needs people who understand their responsibilities and are prepared to work for the development of the state.
He further encouraged the governor to critically assess the performance of his appointees and take decisive action against those who fail to meet expectations.
The call comes amid growing discussions in Cross River over the performance of government officials and the delivery of projects and programmes across the state.
Archbishop Bassey’s position puts fresh pressure on the Otu administration to review its team and ensure that those occupying government positions are capable of contributing meaningfully to the development of Cross River.
He also urged citizens and political leaders to focus on issues that directly affect the people, including infrastructure, economic opportunities and improved public services.
The Archbishop’s intervention is expected to generate further debate among Cross Riverians, particularly over whether the governor’s current team is delivering enough on the administration’s promises.
