A few months ago, I wrote an article critically assessing the performance of Hon. Victor Abang after three years in office as the Member representing Boki/Ikom Federal Constituency. While some people misunderstood the purpose of that article and reacted emotionally, my intention was simple: to encourage better performance and stronger representation for our people.
Today, I am pleased that Hon. Victor Abang did not ignore those concerns. Rather than dismissing criticism, he took time to reflect, make adjustments, and improve in areas where there were genuine concerns. That willingness to listen and learn is a quality that is increasingly rare in public office.
As the 2027 general elections draw closer, the people of Boki and Ikom must decide whether to continue with a representative who has spent the last four years building relationships, attracting projects, and laying foundations for future development, or to start all over again with a new candidate and new promises.
Politics should not be about sentiments alone. It should be about performance, experience, and the ability to deliver results.
Over the years, Hon. Victor Abang has remained close to the people. Through educational support, healthcare interventions, agricultural assistance, skills acquisition programmes, relief materials, and community development initiatives, he has consistently maintained a presence across the constituency. While not every project has been completed, his efforts and commitment to serving the people are visible.
It is also important to understand that some of the major projects he initiated are long-term projects that require time, persistence, and continuity. Projects such as the proposed Federal Medical Centre in Boki, the Federal College of Agriculture and Forestry in Okundi, the College of Education in Ikom, and several constituency development projects cannot be completed overnight. They require sustained legislative effort and follow-up.
This is why continuity matters.
When a representative has already started important projects, built connections within government institutions, and understands how to navigate the system for the benefit of the constituency, it makes sense to allow him the opportunity to complete what he has started. Development is a journey, not a one-time event.
Hon. Victor Abang also enters the 2027 election with valuable legislative experience. He understands the workings of the National Assembly and has established networks that can help attract more opportunities to Boki and Ikom. A second term would place him in a stronger position to translate ongoing efforts into completed projects and lasting benefits for the people.
His opponent, Mr. Pius Abang of the PDP, is free to present his ideas and vision for the constituency. That is the beauty of democracy. However, elections should not be based only on promises. They should also be based on proven commitment, experience, and the ability to deliver.
Another reason many people believe Hon. Victor Abang deserves a second term is his willingness to accept criticism and improve. Good leaders are not those who claim to know everything; they are those who listen, learn, and become better. His response to public feedback has shown maturity and a genuine desire to serve.
Today, Boki and Ikom need more than politics. We need completed projects, better roads, stronger educational institutions, improved healthcare facilities, economic opportunities for our youths, and greater federal presence. Achieving these goals requires consistency, persistence, and experienced representation.
The choice before the people in 2027 is therefore clear: whether to continue building on an existing foundation or to start from the beginning once again.
Hon. Victor Abang has demonstrated commitment, accessibility, and a willingness to improve. He has initiated projects that still require completion and has gained the experience necessary to pursue them more effectively.
For these reasons, many constituents believe that the best path forward is to give him another opportunity to complete what he has started and continue the work of developing Boki/Ikom Federal Constituency.
As 2027 approaches, the people should look beyond campaign slogans and political emotions. They should focus on experience, continuity, and the future they want for the constituency.
The case for returning Hon. Victor Abang is ultimately a case for continuity, consolidation, and completing the journey already begun.
