The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 6 Headquarters, Calabar, AIG Rashid Bello Afegbua, has visited the Akwa Ibom State Police Command as part of a familiarization tour aimed at strengthening supervision and improving coordination within the zone.
AIG Afegbua made the visit on September 14, 2026, in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
The AIG was received by the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Mohammed Azare Baba, alongside members of the command's management team and other senior officers.
Following an inspection of the sentry guard, Afegbua was introduced to the command's management team before proceeding to a meeting with officers and stakeholders.
During the visit, the AIG held an interactive session with officers and men of the command, where he listened to concerns and discussed issues affecting policing operations in the state.
He commended CP Azare Baba for what he described as his continued high-level performance in leading the command. Afegbua noted that he had known the commissioner's performance from his time as Commissioner of Police in Cross River State and expressed confidence in the leadership of the Akwa Ibom Command.
The AIG urged officers to support the activities of the Commissioner of Police and remain committed to the mission and vision of the Inspector General of Police.
He also warned officers against unprofessional conduct, particularly extortion, intimidation and exploitation of members of the public.
Afegbua further drew attention to the issue of garnishee orders against the Police Force, urging officers to avoid conduct and civil matters that could expose the force to financial liabilities.
He said the Police Force could not afford to bear the consequences of unprofessional actions by a few personnel.
The AIG assured officers and men of his commitment to maintaining a smooth working relationship between the Zone 6 Headquarters and the Akwa Ibom State Command.
The familiarization tour forms part of efforts by the Zone 6 leadership to strengthen supervision and engagement with commands under its jurisdiction.
