The Cross River State Government has commenced a major environmental clean-up exercise across Calabar as part of efforts to improve sanitation, protect the environment and restore order within the state capital.
The exercise, according to a report by Leadership, is aimed at tackling environmental challenges and ensuring that public spaces across Calabar are kept cleaner and more orderly.
The development comes amid growing concerns over indiscriminate waste disposal, blocked drainage channels and other activities capable of undermining the cleanliness and environmental health of the city.
The clean-up is expected to cover areas requiring urgent environmental attention, with authorities seeking to reinforce compliance with sanitation and environmental regulations.
For residents and business owners, the exercise could bring noticeable changes to the appearance of major streets and public spaces across the state capital.
However, the sustainability of the initiative may depend on what happens after the clean-up.
