The Cross River State Government has reopened the General Hospital in Obudu, restoring public healthcare services to residents of the local government area and surrounding communities.
The facility was officially put back into use at the weekend in an event represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk, on behalf of Governor Bassey Otu.
The reopening followed the revival of the hospital and the constitution of a new management team to oversee its operations and improve service delivery. The hospital is now headed by Mr. Bob Abua.
Speaking during the event, Commissioner Ayuk urged residents of Obudu to patronise the facility, assuring them that services would be provided at affordable rates.
He also disclosed that additional healthcare personnel would be deployed to the hospital as the need arises, while the Ministry of Health would continue to monitor its operations to ensure adequate staffing and sustained functionality.
“We will continue to monitor this facility closely to ensure that it is adequately staffed, functional and able to provide the quality healthcare services that the people deserve,” Ayuk said.
The commissioner also called on residents to take ownership of the hospital by using its services and supporting efforts to keep it operational.
The Secretary of Obudu Local Government Council, Aben Emmanuel, who represented the council chairman, Peter Undiandeye, welcomed the reopening, describing the return of the hospital to active service as a significant development for residents.
He also commended the hospital administrator and the new management team for their efforts in restoring the facility.
The state government said the reopening is expected to bring healthcare services closer to people in Obudu and neighbouring communities as part of efforts to revitalise public healthcare facilities across Cross River State.
