The Obi/Kwankwaso Movement (OK Movement), Abi Local Government Area chapter in Cross River State, has inaugurated its newly elected executives, with the new leadership vowing to strengthen grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The inauguration ceremony, held in Abi on Sunday, September 13, 2026, attracted party faithful, women groups, youths, ward leaders and other political stakeholders from across the local government area.
According to a statement issued by the Publicity Secretary of the OK Movement, Cross River State, Comr. Divine Charles (MBA), the ceremony featured the swearing-in of the new Abi LGA Coordinator, Mr. Sampson Bassey, alongside members of his executive team.
The statement said the new executives pledged to build an inclusive and grassroots-driven structure capable of reaching communities, wards and political units across Abi.
Speaking after taking the oath of office, Bassey thanked the leadership of the movement for the confidence reposed in him and his team, promising to work with members across the local government.
“We are here to work. Abi is ready, and the OK Movement is ready. We will mobilize every ward, every unit, and every household to ensure victory. This is a movement of the people, and we will not disappoint,” Bassey declared.
The event also brought together key NDC leaders and candidates, who charged the newly inaugurated executives to commence grassroots engagement and voter mobilisation.
The NDC Abi Chapter Chairman, Rev. Williams Elemi, commended the peaceful process and urged the new executives to work towards uniting members and strengthening the party's presence across the local government.
Ward chairmen representing the different wards in Abi also pledged their support to the new LGA structure, while members of the Abi Women Association turned out in large numbers and expressed their readiness to contribute to the mobilisation effort.
The NDC candidate for Abi/Yakurr Federal Constituency, Obol Jesam Michael, called for unity and deeper grassroots engagement, assuring supporters that the interests and voice of the people of Abi would be reflected in his representation if elected.
Also speaking, the NDC candidate for Abi State Constituency, House of Assembly, Barr. Eko Alobo, urged members to begin voter education and mobilisation early, promising quality representation.
Dr. Ben Imoke, an NDC/OK Movement stakeholder, described the inauguration as the beginning of “a new political energy in Abi” and assured the movement of his continued guidance and support.
The Cross River State leadership of the OK Movement, according to the statement by Comr. Divine Charles, described the inauguration as a significant step towards consolidating the movement's structure across the 18 local government areas ahead of the 2027 elections.
The movement said it would continue to focus on grassroots mobilisation and engagement while promoting the political vision associated with Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The inauguration ended with prayers, solidarity songs and renewed commitments from members to work towards the success of the NDC and the broader Obi/Kwankwaso political vision in Cross River State.
