Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has launched the Governor’s Golf Cup as part of efforts to use sports and tourism to attract visitors, investors and business opportunities to the state.

The initiative, according to a Daily Trust report published on September 16, 2026, is being positioned beyond a sporting competition, with the state government linking it to the broader effort to promote Cross River as a tourism and investment destination.

The golf event is expected to bring together golfers and other participants, providing an opportunity to showcase Cross River’s tourism potential while creating a platform for interaction among business people, professionals and visitors.

For Cross River, the move adds golf to the range of activities being used to promote the state’s tourism economy. The state is already known for destinations and events that attract visitors, particularly around Calabar.

The Governor’s Golf Cup therefore represents an attempt to connect sporting activities with tourism and economic opportunities, with the wider objective of increasing the visibility of Cross River and encouraging investment.

The development comes as the Otu administration continues to promote initiatives aimed at presenting Cross River as a destination for tourism, business and investment.

Daily Trust reported that the Governor’s Golf Cup was launched specifically to drive tourism and investment in the state.
