The Cross River State Government has commenced an assessment of electricity infrastructure in Bakassi Local Government Area, in what could mark the beginning of efforts to restore regular power supply to the coastal community.
Engineers from the Cross River State Electrification Agency have been deployed to the area to inspect existing power infrastructure and determine what is required to improve electricity supply.
The assessment is expected to provide the government with information on the condition of available facilities and the work needed to reconnect or strengthen electricity supply across communities in Bakassi.
The development is particularly significant for residents of Bakassi, where electricity access has remained a longstanding concern. A local report published earlier this week described the area as having spent more than a decade without electricity, with the latest government assessment raising expectations of possible power restoration.
