The Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has charged police officers across the state to strengthen community policing and remain firm in the fight against criminal activities.

Ordue gave the charge during his familiarisation tour of Area Commands and police divisions across the Northern and Central Senatorial Districts of Cross River State.

The tour covered Ogoja Area Command on October 15, Ikom Area Command on October 16, Akamkpa Area Command on October 22, and Ugep Area Command on October 23, 2026.

During the visits, the police commissioner stressed the need for officers to work closely with residents, traditional rulers, youth groups, and other community stakeholders to improve security and prevent crime.

He noted that security was a shared responsibility, urging officers to build public trust, improve intelligence gathering, and encourage residents to provide useful information that could help the police identify and apprehend criminals.

The commissioner also warned officers against treating community policing as an excuse for weakness in enforcing the law.

According to him, police officers must conduct thorough investigations and ensure that suspects are prosecuted in accordance with the law, without fear or favour.

However, he emphasised that firmness against criminal activities must not come at the expense of human rights, professionalism, and due process.

The police command said the familiarisation tour was aimed at strengthening cooperation between officers and the communities they serve while promoting accountability and effective crime prevention.

The command called on residents across Cross River State to cooperate with the police by providing credible security information to help protect lives and property.

The development comes as the police command seeks to reinforce community partnerships and improve security operations across the state.
