Cross River State reportedly generated ₦46 billion in internally generated revenue (IGR) by December 2024, following the introduction of digital systems for revenue administration and other government services, according to Nugi Technologies CEO, Ajoke Akinlabi.

Akinlabi disclosed this while speaking with Daily Trust, explaining how technology has helped improve revenue collection and service delivery in the state.

According to the report, Cross River recorded IGR growth of 60.6 per cent, reaching ₦36.3 billion between June 2023 and May 2024. By December 2024, the state's IGR had reportedly reached ₦46 billion.

Nugi Technologies, an information and communications technology company, has worked with the state government in areas including revenue administration, land management, forestry and citizen services.

Akinlabi said the digital revenue system had helped improve collections, while technology had also reduced delays in some government operations.

In land administration, more than 7,500 land files have reportedly been digitised. The company also said the processing time for Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O) had been reduced to 21 days for government land and 42 days for private land.

The report further stated that revenue collection in the forestry department increased by 50 per cent within six months, while truck-processing time fell by the same percentage.

The state's citizen-facing platform, My Cross River, also recorded a 40 per cent increase in reports and feedback, alongside a 25 per cent reduction in response times, according to Akinlabi.

The development highlights the potential role of digital technology in improving government revenue administration, reducing paperwork and making public services more accessible.

However, the reported figures relate to 2023 and 2024. The latest revenue figures would be needed to determine how the state's digital reforms have affected collections since then.

For Cross River residents, a key question is how improved revenue generation will translate into better roads, healthcare, education, water supply and other essential public services.
