The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the cost of its nomination and expression of interest forms ahead of the 2027 general elections, with presidential aspirants expected to pay up to ₦100 million.
According to details contained in the party’s election timetable, the presidential form is pegged at ₦100 million, made up of ₦30 million for expression of interest and ₦70 million for nomination. Governorship aspirants will pay a total of ₦50 million, covering ₦10 million for expression of interest and ₦40 million for nomination.
For other positions, senatorial aspirants are required to pay ₦20 million, while those seeking seats in the House of Representatives will pay ₦10 million. State House of Assembly aspirants are to pay ₦5 million in total.
The party also released a schedule of activities, indicating that the sale of forms is expected to run between late April and early May 2026, with deadlines for submission and dates fixed for primaries across various elective positions.
However, the high cost of nomination forms has already triggered widespread reactions from political analysts and stakeholders, many of whom argue that the fees could limit participation and favour only wealthy aspirants.
Some analysts have described the development as a sign of increasing monetisation of Nigeria’s political space, warning that it may discourage competent but less financially capable candidates from contesting elections.
The debate is expected to intensify as political parties finalize preparations for the 2027 elections, with concerns growing over inclusiveness, internal democracy, and access to political participation.
