Former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke, has emerged as the presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) ahead of the 2027 general election.

Duke secured the party’s ticket after defeating two other aspirants during the PRP presidential primary held in Abuja.

According to results announced by the party leadership, the former governor polled 6,499 votes to defeat his closest rival, Kingsley Yakubu, who scored 2,699 votes.

The PRP National Chairman, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who announced the result, described the exercise as transparent and democratic, adding that the party remains committed to credible internal processes ahead of the 2027 elections.

Before the primary election, the party had screened and cleared three aspirants to contest for the presidential ticket, including Donald Duke, economist Dr. Nnaoke Ufere, and former AAC presidential candidate, Yakubu Mohammed Kingsley.

Donald Duke, who served as Governor of Cross River State from 1999 to 2007, is widely known for projects such as the Calabar Carnival and Tinapa Resort, which brought national and international attention to the state during his administration.

His emergence is expected to add another dimension to the growing political conversations and opposition realignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
