The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, has defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against growing criticism over Nigeria's worsening insecurity, arguing that the President has fulfilled his responsibility by issuing clear directives to the nation's security agencies.
Speaking during the US-Nigeria Faith Heroes Award Gala in Washington, D.C., Adeboye acknowledged that insecurity has become more widespread, noting that terrorism, banditry and kidnapping have expanded beyond northern Nigeria into parts of the South.
According to the cleric, while the security situation has deteriorated, it would be unfair to place the entire blame on the President. He explained that the Commander-in-Chief has already instructed the military and other security agencies to tackle the crisis, adding that the responsibility for implementation rests with those charged with executing the President's directives.
Adeboye maintained that President Tinubu has "done his bit" by giving the necessary orders to security chiefs and that Nigerians should also hold the operational commanders accountable for delivering results on the ground.
Despite defending the President, the respected pastor admitted that the country's security challenges have become more alarming in recent years. He observed that communities previously considered relatively safe are now experiencing incidents of kidnapping and violent attacks, creating fear among citizens.
His remarks come at a time when the Tinubu administration continues to face criticism from opposition figures and many Nigerians over persistent attacks by terrorists, bandits and kidnappers across several parts of the country.
Adeboye's comments have since generated mixed reactions, with supporters agreeing that operational failures should not automatically be blamed on the President, while critics argue that ultimate responsibility for national security rests with the Commander-in-Chief under the Nigerian Constitution.
