The Cross River State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to building stronger partnerships with young people as part of efforts to improve community policing and enhance security across the state.
The renewed commitment followed a courtesy visit by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), led by its National President, Comrade Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, to the Command Headquarters at Diamond Hill, Calabar.
Representing the Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid B. Afegbua, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Etim Godwin, received the delegation and described the visit as a significant step toward strengthening cooperation between the Police and the youth.
Speaking during the meeting, the NYCN President said the council remains committed to promoting peace, unity and sustainable development through closer collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force. He noted that the council would continue to support public enlightenment campaigns, responsible information sharing and youth-driven initiatives aimed at preventing crime and encouraging civic responsibility.
Responding on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, DCP Godwin stressed that effective policing cannot succeed without the support of the public. According to him, community policing remains one of the most effective strategies for tackling crime because it encourages citizens to work closely with security agencies.
He acknowledged that the Police cannot be present in every community at all times, urging residents to provide timely and credible information that could help prevent criminal activities and improve public safety across the state.
The Police Command also called on young people to remain law-abiding, cooperate with security agencies and actively participate in programmes that promote peace, security and community development.
The Command reiterated that it will continue to deepen collaboration with youth organisations, community leaders and other stakeholders to strengthen public confidence in policing and ensure the protection of lives and property throughout Cross River State.
