Governor Bassey Otu has expressed confidence that Cross River State will undergo a remarkable transformation before the end of his administration, declaring that the state "will shock Nigeria" through the impact of his government's development agenda.
Speaking during an interview with media personality Diana Mary Nsan on the programme Dialogue, Otu said his administration is laying the foundation for a new Cross River that will rank among Nigeria's leading states in productivity, peace, infrastructure and opportunities.
The governor stressed that he has no ambition beyond serving the state, insisting that his focus is on leaving behind a legacy that Cross Riverians will be proud of.
According to him, his emergence as governor was a divine assignment, adding that he owes the people nothing less than his best in terms of service delivery.
"At my age, I don't think I'm ready for any distractions. What I owe the state is my best in terms of service delivery," Otu said.
He noted that many of the projects being executed by his administration are foundational and designed to create long-term economic growth rather than short-term political gains.
Governor Otu said his vision is to reposition Cross River as one of Nigeria's frontline states, where different sectors of the economy complement one another and create opportunities for residents.
He also reflected on the state's historical significance, recalling that Cross River once served as Nigeria's first capital and expressing his desire to restore its prestige and reputation.
"I want to see that capital again. We may not move the nation's capital from Abuja to Cross River, but I want Cross River to reflect what it should be," he said.
The governor added that his administration is working towards building a state where every child has the opportunity to succeed and compete nationally, regardless of their background.
He acknowledged that achieving such an ambitious vision requires improvements across virtually every sector but expressed confidence that the ongoing reforms and investments would produce lasting results.
Otu assured Cross Riverians that by the time his tenure comes to an end, the state would stand as a model of development, peace and prosperity, saying the transformation would surprise many across the country.
