The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Deputy Governorship Candidate in Cross River State, Pol. Evang. Alphonsus Ogar Eba Esq., has appealed for calm following reports of an alleged plan by the Cross River State Government to relocate the Okuku Campus of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) to the Southern Senatorial District.
In a public statement addressed to the people of Yala and Cross River State, Ogar Eba said he had received numerous calls and messages from concerned residents over the reported development. While stressing that the relocation remains unconfirmed, he urged citizens to remain peaceful and law-abiding.
He called on the state government to immediately clarify its position, noting that the rumours have already generated widespread tension both online and within communities.
According to him, if the reported plan is true, it would not be accepted by the people of Yala, who, he said, are still recovering from the relocation of Radio Ugaga from the area more than two decades ago.
Ogar Eba also argued that the alleged relocation would further deepen feelings of marginalisation in Northern Cross River. He recalled the removal of former UNICROSS Vice Chancellor, Prof. Augustine Angba, describing it as another action that many people in the region viewed as unfair.
The PDP deputy governorship candidate alleged that the rumoured relocation, alongside other decisions of the current administration, reflects what he described as continued neglect of Yala Local Government Area and the Northern Senatorial District.
He further claimed that the alleged move would negatively affect the educational, economic and social development of the host community, warning that such decisions could weaken opportunities available to young people in the area.
Despite his criticisms, Ogar Eba urged residents not to resort to violence or any action capable of disrupting public peace. Instead, he encouraged them to remain calm, prayerful and united while awaiting an official response from the government.
He expressed confidence that any perceived injustice against the people would eventually be corrected, adding that the PDP hopes to address such concerns if voted into office in the 2027 governorship election.
