The Cross River State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk, has said the people of Etung Local Government Area remain united in their support for Governor Bassey Otu and the All Progressives Congress (APC), despite recent political developments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking with journalists on Friday, Ayuk dismissed claims that the emergence of Senator Sandy Onor, an indigene of Etung, as a presidential aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has caused political division in the area. According to him, the political position of the people of Etung has not changed.
The commissioner said the Ejagham people, especially those from Etung, have always identified with the political mainstream since Nigeria gained independence in 1960. He added that the people are known for standing together and are not likely to abandon that tradition because of individual political ambitions.
Ayuk expressed confidence that Etung would deliver overwhelming votes for Governor Otu and all APC candidates during the 2027 elections. He said the governor's performance and leadership have continued to strengthen the party's popularity across the local government.
He also praised Governor Otu for giving Etung what he described as unprecedented representation in government. According to him, the local government currently has a Federal Minister, the Secretary to the State Government and the Commissioner for Health, all appointed under the Otu administration, a development he said has never happened in the history of Etung.
Ayuk maintained that the people of Etung remain loyal to the APC and would continue to support the governor's administration as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
