"Victor Abang Will Not Win Again" — MC Okrika Warns Governor Otu Against Imposing Leaders in Cross River Central

Cross River-based activist and social commentator MC Okrika has warned Governor Bassey Edet Otu against imposing political leaders on the people of Cross River Central ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a video commentary circulating on social media, MC Okrika said the people of the district are prepared to reject elected officials whom they believe have failed to deliver on their promises.

According to him, he had earlier predicted that some serving lawmakers would not return after the APC primaries. He claimed those predictions have now come to pass, describing the outcome as proof that the people are becoming more determined to hold politicians accountable.

MC Okrika specifically mentioned the member representing Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency, Hon. Victor Abang, declaring that the lawmaker would not win re-election if he eventually contests the 2027 general election.

He alleged that the federal lawmaker has made little impact in the constituency and challenged him to point to major projects or achievements that would justify another term in office.

According to the activist, elections in the district will no longer be based on party loyalty alone but on the performance of individual candidates.

He also criticised politicians who, according to him, only return to their communities during election campaigns with bags of rice, cash gifts and other incentives to seek votes after spending years away from the people.

MC Okrika urged residents not to exchange their votes for temporary benefits, insisting that the era of what he described as "political slavery" must come to an end.

He further described Cross River Central as one of the most neglected political zones in the state despite its economic importance. Using Ikom as an example, he argued that the area contributes significantly to the state's economy but lacks adequate development, including reliable electricity and basic infrastructure.

The social commentator also called on elected representatives to account for projects and public facilities in the area, saying the people deserve transparency and effective representation.

Addressing Governor Otu directly, MC Okrika said he has no objection to the governor seeking a second term but warned that attempts to impose candidates on Cross River Central could create political challenges for the APC in the district.

He added that voters and election observers would closely monitor polling units during the elections to ensure that the people's votes count.

According to him, the campaign is not only about the 2027 elections but also about shaping the political future of Cross River State ahead of the 2031 governorship race.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Hon. Victor Abang nor the Cross River State Government has publicly responded to the comments made by MC Okrika in the video commentary.
