The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Cross River State for the 2027 election, Arthur Jarvis Archibong, has promised to serve only one term if elected governor.
Archibong made the pledge while speaking on his plans for the state, saying his decision was based on the need to respect the political understanding around power rotation in Cross River.
He said he would use the four-year tenure to focus on development, improve governance and ensure that communities across the state benefit from government programmes.
The PDP candidate also promised to strengthen local government administration and give communities greater attention, particularly in areas he said have been neglected over the years.
Archibong criticised some aspects of the current administration of Governor Bassey Otu, arguing that Cross River needs a government that is more inclusive and accountable to the people.
He said his administration, if elected, would focus on practical development rather than politics, with emphasis on infrastructure, economic opportunities and improved living conditions for residents.
The candidate urged Cross River voters to support his ambition in 2027, presenting his one-term pledge as a commitment to serve the state for four years and allow the principle of power rotation to continue.
The 2027 governorship contest is expected to be closely watched as major political parties and aspirants intensify their campaigns ahead of the election.
