The NDC Senatorial Candidate for Cross River Central, Rt. Hon. Bassey Eko Ewa, has called on political parties, candidates, supporters and residents of the district to embrace peaceful, responsible and issue-based campaigning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Eko Ewa, in a message on responsible campaigning and democratic engagement, urged political actors to avoid insults, hatred, violence and actions capable of creating division among the people.
He said political disagreements should not turn citizens into enemies, stressing that voters should carefully examine the vision, plans, competence, character and track records of candidates before making their choices.
The senatorial candidate also cautioned voters against being influenced by rented crowds, financial inducements and other temporary political incentives.
According to him, the size of a political crowd does not necessarily determine a candidate's competence, while money distributed during campaigns cannot guarantee quality representation after elections.
He encouraged supporters of all candidates to promote their choices with facts and respect, while challenging political ideas rather than attacking individuals.
Eko Ewa further warned youths and other supporters against allowing themselves to be used for political thuggery, urging them to stay away from weapons and violence and to avoid actions that could lead to trouble with the law.
He also appealed to residents attending political rallies, consultations and campaign meetings to prioritise their safety, particularly by driving carefully and obeying traffic regulations.
“No political event, rally, or campaign activity is worth losing a life,” he said, stressing that the lives of citizens remain more important than any political gathering.
Eko Ewa said elections would eventually come and go, but Cross River Central would remain home to its people, urging residents to preserve their relationships and unity beyond political contests.
He called on the people to campaign with courage, debate with facts, disagree with respect and vote with wisdom, while putting the interests of Cross River Central above political bitterness.
