The Cross River State Police Command has launched a campaign aimed at discouraging youths from getting involved in political violence, digital manipulation and other forms of thuggery.
The campaign, tagged “My Future Is Greater Than Digital & Political Thuggery,” was launched on Friday, August 21, 2026, in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
The campaign is coming as political activities gradually increase ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the police saying young people should not allow themselves to be used for violent or criminal activities.
As part of the launch, the Command organised a Walkathon to sensitise residents, especially youths, on the dangers of political and digital thuggery.
The walk brought together the Commissioner for Youth and Skills Acquisition, the State Coordinator of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, the SSA on Peace and Security (South), students, youths, police officers and representatives of sister security agencies.
Speaking through the campaign, the police urged young people to think about the long-term consequences of their actions instead of allowing politicians or other individuals to use them for violence.
The Command also warned against the misuse of social media and digital platforms for manipulation, harassment and activities capable of creating tension in the society.
According to the police, the campaign is part of efforts to strengthen youth engagement, public enlightenment and preventive policing across the state.
The Command called on Cross River youths to use their energy, creativity and digital skills for productive activities that can improve their lives and communities.
The police said the central message of the campaign remains simple:
“My Future Is Greater Than Digital & Political Thuggery.”
