The newly deployed Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has warned officers and personnel of the Command against abuse of power, unprofessional conduct and violations of the fundamental human rights of citizens.

Ordue, who is the 49th Commissioner of Police in the state, issued the warning on Monday, August 17, 2026, while delivering his maiden lecture at the Cross River State Police Command headquarters in Calabar.

The lecture was attended by Senior Police Officers, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), as well as heads of investigating and tactical units across the Command.

The Commissioner expressed concern over what he described as an increase in fundamental human rights-related suits and complaints emanating from different parts of the Command.

According to him, some of the complaints border on alleged gross violations of citizens' rights, unlawful and prolonged detention, abuse of police powers and other forms of professional misconduct.

He therefore directed Area Commanders, DPOs and heads of units to strengthen supervision and ensure that officers under their command operate strictly within the law, existing police regulations and professional standards.

Ordue warned that officers found culpable of human rights violations or other forms of misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary measures in line with existing laws and regulations.

He also placed responsibility on senior officers to properly supervise their personnel, stressing that supervisors could equally be held accountable where violations occur as a result of poor supervision.

The Commissioner, who assumed office on Monday, August 10, said his administration would be guided by the D-C-I-I-D-D-T policing framework — Discipline, Community Policing, Inter-Agency Collaboration, Intelligence-Led Proactive Policing, Discreet Investigation, Diligent Prosecution and Teamwork.

He said professionalism, discipline and respect for human dignity would remain central to his policing strategy, describing them as essential to rebuilding public confidence and strengthening the relationship between the Police and citizens.

Ordue further reiterated his commitment to protecting the rights of residents and improving public trust in the Force.

He urged police personnel across the state to carry out their duties within the limits of the law and in accordance with the ethics of the Nigeria Police Force.

The CP also encouraged members of the public who have genuine complaints against police personnel to make use of appropriate channels to report such cases.

He assured that legitimate complaints would receive the necessary attention and be handled in accordance with the law.

The warning comes barely one week after Ordue assumed duty as the new Commissioner of Police in Cross River State, as he begins to set out the priorities of his administration with a strong emphasis on discipline, professionalism and community-oriented policing.
