The Cross River State Police Command has announced a major security offensive ahead of the 2026 Ember Season and Yuletide period, directing commanders across the state to intensify patrols and surveillance.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, issued the directive during the Command’s weekly briefing on Monday, September 7, 2026, citing the expected influx of people into the state and increased commercial and social activities during the festive period.

The police said patrols will be intensified around crime-prone areas, major entry and exit routes, markets, motor parks, business districts and other public spaces across Cross River.
“We are not waiting for criminals to strike before we respond. We are moving ahead of them,” CP Ordue was quoted as saying.
He charged commanders to take responsibility for the security of their respective areas and ensure sustained police visibility.
Police Take Operation Velvet To Cross River Waterways
As part of the new security strategy, the Cross River Police Command said Operation VELVET will also be extended to the state’s waterways.
The operation is scheduled to be launched at the Dolphin Marine Base in Calabar on Friday, September 11, 2026.
The maritime operation is expected to complement the intensified land patrols and strengthen surveillance along Cross River’s waterways, particularly during the festive season.
The Commissioner warned criminal elements that the Command was prepared to disrupt their activities and prevent criminals from exploiting security gaps across the state.
He also assured residents, visitors and businesses of the police command’s commitment to maintaining a peaceful and secure festive period.
The Command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the police.
