The Cross River State Government has sealed three private health facilities in the Central Senatorial District over alleged violations of healthcare regulations and the use of unqualified personnel.
The enforcement exercise was carried out by the state's Health Quality and Anti-Quackery Task Force following inspections aimed at sanitising the healthcare sector and protecting residents from unsafe medical practices.
The affected facilities include Gifted Hands Empowerment Foundation in Ikom and Ekori, Rockalive Medical Centre in Nko, Yakurr Local Government Area, and Benson Clinic in Ikom.
According to the state Ministry of Health, inspectors discovered several infractions during the exercise, including failure to register with the appropriate authorities, lack of licensed medical professionals, poor sanitary conditions, and inadequate medical equipment.
Officials also alleged that one of the facilities had previously been linked to a patient death following a surgical procedure, while another was reportedly being operated by an individual without formal medical qualifications.
The government said the facilities have been sealed pending further investigations and compliance with the state's healthcare regulations.
Authorities reiterated that the ongoing crackdown on illegal health facilities is part of efforts to eliminate medical quackery, improve healthcare standards, and safeguard the lives of Cross River residents. They also warned owners of unregistered health facilities to regularise their operations or face similar sanctions.
